The Central Oklahoma region: For a fisherman freshwater Dream!

Little known to most anglers, freshwater fishing is a dream.The State is divided into 5 regions of Central Region.There is a series of fisheries around Oklahoma City including: Arcadia, Draper, Hefner, Overholser, Thunderbird, and Wes Watkins. Curiously, all these fishing locations are remote from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. There are fishing regulations in these areas to make sure you use a bait shop or city park official.




"City Lakes" Species Limits & Keep Requirements "the fishing as" city lakes "are as follows: Lake Hefner, Lake Overholser and Lake Draper. The City of Oklahoma City also has fishing areas, they are classified as "Close to Home" A City fishing permit and Oklahoma State fishing license required for persons 16 to 61 years of fishing on the "City of Lakes" and "Close to Home" fishing.
"Close to Home" fishing, are bodies of water in a program of intensive cooperation between Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.




Close To Home waters include: Crystal Lake, 6625 SW 15 (special use area) • Doles Youth Park Pond, NW 50th and Meridian fishing • Edwards Park, 1515 N Bryant • Kids' Lake on Wilshire, 3200 W Wilshire Route 66 • Park Ponds, 3350 • West Overholser Drive South Lakes Park Ponds (East and West), 4302 SW 119 • All waters in Stinchcombe Wildlife Refuge, NW 51 & Stinchcombe Road • Oklahoma River, extending downstream from NW 10th Street (wetlands, impoundments, ponds) to NE 10th Street. • Zoo Lake, 2101 NE 50

Now let's talk a bit about Central Region Fisheries.



Arcadia Lake is located on The Deep Fork River and 1820 acres of surface and 26 miles from the coast. Arcadia Lake is located near the city of Edmond. For you, people without a boat Lake Arcadia has a public heated, covered dock is planned for the year fishing nets blue, channel catfish, blue catfish and large mouth bass. Before boat owners there are many access areas to launch your fishing craft.




More Stanley Draper is located in south-east of Oklahoma City and is close to I-240 between Midwest Boulevard and Post Road. The lake was built in 1963. Lake Draper takes water from Lake Atoka and McGee Creek in southern Oklahoma reservoir. The lake has 4 covered fishing piers for the fisherman without boats. For boat users there are many boats afrijkleppen. The lake has a ave. depth of 34ft and 98ft at the deepest point. Lake Draper covers 2900 hectares.




Lake Hefner Lake Hefner was built in 1947 and is an excellent fishing lake lake.The closed, heated fishing dock Near Hefner Golf, and a Covered fishing pier called Fisherman's Neck.Lake Hefner has a ave. depth of 29 meters on average and is 94ft at the deepest point. Lake Hefner covers 2500 surface acres.is Located in northwest Oklahoma City and is included in the city of lakes, and of fishing regulations.




Lake Overholser Yukon is located on the East Side, the Lake has 7 miles of coastline and 1,500 hectares. Oklahoma City owns Lake Overholser, Lake is the city's oldest reservoir, built in 1919. The lake has a ave. depth of 6 meters on average, and is 13ft at the deepest point.




Lake Thunderbird is located near the city of Oklahoma to the east of Norman. Lake Thunderbird has miles of coastline and 6070 hectares. Lake Thunderbird is a great place to fish. Catch Crapper, Channel Catfish, Large Mouth Bass, Sunfish and Saugey.




Lake Wes Watkins located off Interstate 40 between Shawnee and Oklahoma City. The over 1142 acres operated by the Pottawatomie Development Authority, which has fishing regulations on the lake. Lake Wes Watkins was in August 1999. All the large mouth bass fishing catch and release only. The lake has a great bass and the central region is the best Large Mouth Bass Lake.
