First, I must admit my ignorance when I was told that Barramundi in Thailand, I was very surprised. Thinking they were only Australia, it was stressed to me that these fish live indeed many freshwater lakes in Asia. I went back to Bor Num Lake with a friend of mine (John), also an avid fisherman and lives in Bangkok, more than thirteen years.
The lake is actually Bor Num Barramundi Fishing Park for the day and the ticket costs 100 Thai baht (about 2 pounds or $ 3), excellent value for money. You can rent rods and spinning tackle an extra 100 baht per person. Num Bor Lake offers the chance to try fly fishing, the price is always the same code of fishing is chosen. It was suggested to us that we use bait to catch barramundi, we fully agree with fishing lures always professional and the action and excitement is second to none when fishing for predatory fish using this system.
It seems that fishing for barramundi, popular among Thais, especially on weekends, where many enjoy fishing. While capture and eat your prey is something that has never appealed to me, many fishermen here, as Thais and foreigners do. You can enjoy this fish in the restaurant for an additional cost if you want the fish is prepared by the cooks on your taste (stock often to counter the fish to the pot). You can always put the fish back if it is not your bag.
There is not much protection against the sun here, so you must continue to be good when the sun Nuke the skin easily, even without fighting to block the rays at bay. Thus, a good hat and a shirt with long sleeves are the order of the day.
The staff was very friendly which gives us many tips and advice, though I think we can compete for admission, the fish may need to practice different techniques to use when fishing at home.
The Barramundi is grown commercially in the lakes here in Thailand for over twenty years, they are extremely aggressive fighters when hooked and give a serious fight. Usually, clearing water jump energetically charged, which causes big splash as they restore the land, allowing the angler to applause and cheers approved by local observers.
We found that poppers with a fly attached to a lead of 30 pounds was the most successful lures (as recommended by the guide). Barramundi are marked plaque Gill and larger fish can cut 40 pounds fluorocarbon shock leader in a jiffy. We used 6 meter bait cast rods and bait casting reels that are specifically used to attract fish (they are like the multiplication of roles).
The lake is a fish farm and is very easy to empty as if the wrong methods are used, but if you have the right to a great day take place. Fish can vary in size, shape 1 kg (2.2 pounds) and then to 10 kg (22 pounds).
Incredibly the first cast of the day led John to be taken in a sample, Barramundi few seconds he jumped out of the water to create much excitement in the camp (the guide suggests that if the fish in violation of water, it is preferable to lower the tip of the rod so that the fish not much chance of getting rid of the hook), then John should fight for another five minutes with his prey again barramundi authorized magnificent water several times before finally presenting net -. Fish 4.8 kilograms on the model first and twenty more in total, not bad for some beginners.
Some tips: --
The question is whether they travel or not to use. If you're sure to find the path and you have your own transport there is no need to pay extra for a company trip. Employees of Born Num is very experienced and probably know more about their water that guide agencies.
Bait you should buy fish, you can not catch and let live baiting because of the almost certain to take.
A small tip is appreciated but not mandatory for guides at Bor Num - we gave B100 board for good service all day
The guides are kept very bust looking usually after 5 or 6 anglers at a time.
Food and beverages are ordered by the guide so you do not get out of the water.
Toilets are not European style but clean.
There is a very friendly atmosphere and local fishermen are only too willing to help, give friendly advice and guidance without being too intrusive.
So overall a great day was had by all connected and that we were ourselves and certainly return to Bor Num soon.
